Next Mile Weather: Privacy

Back to the route planner

Next Mile Weather is run by NC Media LLC. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to the information you use on this site.

Addresses and trip details

The addresses, stops, departure times, and fuel numbers you enter are used only to plan your route and build your weather readout. To do that work, the addresses and route points are sent to the public services that provide address lookup, routing, weather forecasts, and weather alerts: OpenStreetMap and Nominatim, the US Census Bureau Geocoder, the OSRM routing service, Open-Meteo, and the National Weather Service. Those services receive the places you asked about, the same way they would if you used their own sites.

Saved trips

Saved trips are a membership feature. When a member saves a trip, we store the trip details on our servers so the trip syncs to the member's account on any device. Members can delete saved trips from their account at any time.

Accounts and Premium

Planning trips requires a membership account with an email address and a password. Passwords are stored only as a salted one way hash, never in plain text. Members can save trips to their account so the trips sync between devices, and can ask us to monitor a saved route: for monitored routes we store the route points and departure time, and we check the National Weather Service alerts for those points so we can email you when new alerts appear. Payments are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store your card number. We store the fact that a subscription is active so the site can unlock the planner for your account.

No advertising trackers

Next Mile Weather does not run third party ad networks, tracking pixels, or analytics scripts that follow you around the web. Sponsors are shown as simple labeled placements on the page, the way a sign on a building works, and they do not receive information about your trips.

Server logs

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps standard technical logs of page requests, such as the page visited, the time, and the general type of device and browser. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure.
